Memories of Himalayas

Updated: Sep 6, 2022

Never knew I had Himalayas in me

Welcome to my first EVER blog post. I am starting my own very blog for the first time to use it as a way to stay connected to the nation of my birth, the nation of Himalayas.

As I have embarked upon my new life here in Melbourne, Australia, I am learning new ways, new customs, and getting used to the flat grasslands and the impressive cityscapes. The picture above is from one (and unfortunately the only) of my trek in #Langtang region. After a very challenging and tiring trek, with little to no comfortable lodgings on the way, we finally found a warm and soft bed to lay out head in. And lucky for us, the weather was clear and crisp, our view full of the white, #snowy #moutains and clear, blue sky.

Memories as if it were just yesterday keep coming back to me like it was yesterday. I didn't realise that the #himalayas were so ingrained in me.

To get to this view, I had to go through quite the trouble though.

My journey started way, way, wayyy down from this point. My first ever trek and my calf muscles cramped a little when I was climbing the hills and walking through the forest. While the view was breathtaking, I could only enjoy it a little as the cramp made me quite frustrated. At times when my friends were out of sight and I was behind all alone, I could not help but sob a little. But I knew I had to walk on. I sobbed and walked on.

I was on this trek with my school and office friends. My partner was in #Melbourne at the time, and I missed him dearly, especially this time since I felt so miserable. Thought of him motivating me kind of got my spirits up and I pulled myself together keeping the destination in mind. My friends waited for me at different points of the #trek, making sure that I was hydrated and that I was feeling well.

Not to forget, it humbled when local men and women were passing me with heavy luggages. They kept saying, "it's only five more minutes.. it's ten more minutes....", giving me much hope and motivation to reach my destination.

This gentleman shown above was wearing what looked like dress shoes and carrying down luggage of half his weight, and yet he was practically skipping on the stepping stones. Seeing me huff and puff, he offered some chocolate bar that he bought when he was in town. He was a #kindsoul and kept me company most of the time, but later had to quicken his pace and made his way ahead of me.

His secret to his great health, he reveals, "Dal bhat" aka "rice and lentils".

When I finally reached above the forest, then came the long stretches of the #terrain. I had still more to walk, but atleast it was not up anymore. I was already there!

To be continued......
